|There is an amazing truth at work in your soul that determines the direction and outcome of your life. Without you even being aware of it, the way you live and react to life is being shaped by this undeniable truth. A. W. Tozer called it the “Secret Law of the Soul”. You may not realize it, but your mental image of God affects everything you do, everything you feel, and how you respond to the circumstances of life. Simply put, what you think about God shapes who you are and how you live. What you truly believe about God shapes how you act and react.
What does this look like? Well, have you ever met a Christian who, instead of being loving and gracious, they were judgmental and unkind. That’s simply because deep inside their soul they truly believe that God is judgmental and unmerciful toward them. But when someone is kind and forgiving, it’s because that’s the view they have of God. They have tasted His kindness and been changed by His love. Remember the woman who came to Jesus and washed His feet with her tears and with her hair? What caused her to demonstrate such love? Jesus said that she had been forgiven much, therefore she loved much–Luke 7:47. Her view of God changed when He forgave her rather than judging her; when He accepted her rather than rejecting her. And her view of God shaped how she acted.
You see, this is not about religion. This is all about an encounter with the God of all grace. His goodness and love are so great, that once you taste and see that He is good, you will never be the same.
We often react to life’s trials with fear, worry and anger—simply because our view of God is that He is not actively doing anything about our situation. But when we realize He has already moved heaven and earth for us, it changes how we react to the problem. When we realize He has worked it out from the end to the beginning (Isaiah 46:10)–anger, fear & worry cease.
Can you imagine the impact you can make in your world when you truly believe that God is Love?! When you know that the God of love will never leave you or forsake you; He will never break His promise to you, peace comes. When you are truly convinced that God isn’t mad at you, but He’s mad about you, it will shape how you treat yourself, how you treat others, and how you confidently and calmly handle whatever life throws your way! When you understand deep down inside your soul that God is a loving, forgiving Father, you will love much. The world will be different because of you.
The Bible is a mirror that reflects what God is really like and what we are truly like inside! We are everything God says we are. As Jesus is, so are we in this world!–1 John 4:17. That is your new identity in Christ. And your destiny comes from your identity.
