How To leave Guilt, Unforgivness and the Disease to Please behind

Dear Friend,

Did you make any resolutions this year? To be honest, I don’t even try anymore. I’ve noticed that many people make resolutions and set goals at the beginning of a new year—but after a few weeks, most of them will admit having failed to make any real changes.

But I’ve got some good news for you today! You can still resolve to make 2014 the best year you have ever known!

The key to changing old habits for new ones and replacing failure with success lies in what we leave behind. In Hebrews 12:1 we read: “let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

There are a few things that will limit your success, your victory and your joy—but I will show you how to lay them aside and leave them behind, so that you can run the race God has planned for you.

Before you can leave those things behind, you need to stop for a moment and remember that God has plans for your life. He wants you to know joy. He wants you to experience victory. He wants you to live in peace. He wants to fill your cup with blessings that overflow. That is the kind of life that God has for you!

But the simple truth is that you cannot take hold of the new until you let go of the old. You cannot run a race looking backwards. You must learn how to let go of the past and reach toward the future.

There are ways of thinking that will cripple us and keep us from stepping into God’s purpose and plan for our lives. Leave them behind, and your future will be bright. But if you do not abandon them, they will haunt, chase, hinder, oppress, terrorize and torment you for the rest of your life. Here are three things that you must leave behind if you want to have the freedom to change your life for the better and to enjoy God’s very best.

First, we must lay aside all manner of unforgiveness. The devil wants you to be trapped by the things people did to you in the past. And when you do not forgive, he gets what he wants! In fact, when you harbor bitterness or anger over something that was done to you, you are opening a door for him to gain entrance to your heart.

He will capitalize on that to hinder and ruin your life. You are allowing him to manipulate and control your life when you do not forgive. You can’t pick and choose whom to forgive. You must forgive whoever has hurt you—even if (especially if!) they don’t deserve it. In fact, it isn’t really forgiveness unless it hurt first. If it didn’t hurt, there’s nothing to forgive.

The second thing we have to set aside is guilt. Guilt is one of the most powerful forces the devil uses against us. If you let him, the enemy will beat you up with the sins and mistakes of the past. But God wants you to live in freedom, not in guilt.

The blood of Jesus declares that you are not guilty. No accusation that is brought against you can overpower the blood of Christ. He has already paid the debt for you. That doesn’t mean we are innocent. All of us have done things that are wrong. It simply means that we are not going to be called to pay the penalty—Jesus already paid it for us!

Finally, we must leave behind is what I call “the disease to please.” You cannot please God if you are living to please others. There are simply too many people with too many conflicting desires and dreams for you to please them all. This is true in every area of life.

The only ambition of your life should be to please God. Too many of us are slaves to what people think about us. We live our lives serving, not people, but our fear of what they think. Serving fear is a horrible way to live. It is filled with insecurity, doubt, dread, and ultimately failure. If you live to please God, you will be free! You will still love people and give to them and serve them, but you won’t be doing it to gain their attention and accolades. You will be doing it for the Lord.

My friend, I want this to be the best year of your life! God has called me to teach His Word to you and to millions of others around the world. And to accomplish this task, I am asking you for a special gift this month. Your prayers and financial support make this life-changing ministry possible.

Please be as generous as possible with your support for our ministry. We will use every gift carefully to reach others with our message of love and encouragement.

This month, when you give a gift of $28 or more, I will send you my new audio series, A Fresh Start: How to Walk Away from Unforgiveness, Guilt, and the Fear of Man. In these four powerful messages, I’ll show you how to get a fresh start with God by leaving behind everything that keeps you from walking in total victory! Thank you in advance for your generosity.
